She was only twenty.

Looking forward to becoming a Mother for the first time, and still clinging to her dreams of pursing her passion for singing.

In Her Momma's Own Words-

My name is Tara Woodlee. I am nothing special, just a wife and mother of two beautiful daughters. I lived and breathed my family, especially my youngest daughter, Ashleigh. Both my girls are special. Raechel, the oldest, is my go to girl. By that I mean she is a strong, dependable, a go getter. She is also the child who tries to mother everyone she knows and one of the best listeners in the world. She and Ashleigh are almost 3 years apart in age.

Now my daughter Ashleigh was spirited to say the least……she was one of those rare people that when you were with her she just naturally sucked all the oxygen out of the room. You always felt that your day would better just being in her presence. Her whole life was about PASSION!  Whether it was love or hate or any emotion in between she was passionate about it.  Many people in trying to describe her have used such terms as a whirlwind, a fireworks show and an explosion. What sticks with me the most are the words from a song. Ashleigh was all about music and singing and this was one of her favorite musicals, The Sound of Music…. replace the word Maria with Ashleigh and that was her spirit. I never figured out how to hold that moon beam in my hand.

Ashleigh Marie Lindsey died on Friday, July 13th, 2012, at the age of 20 yrs. She was 4 months pregnant with my 1st grandchild, Patience Lynn. Her little body just couldn’t survive the fatal gunshot wound to the head during a brutal act of Domestic Violence. My world changed that day when evil touched me and delivered an almost a fatal blow to my soul. That is until I discovered that inside me was still my daughters PASSION burning bright. I discovered it when I realized how many young women my daughter knew and loved were living in violence. So, I turned to God in prayer for not only comfort and strength, but to find out his will for Ashleigh’s memory.

Today, I’m still no one special. Just a wife, and mom but one with a Passion to stop the Violence against young women like my beautiful, daughter. This is a journey the Lord has sent me on today. This is why I have founded Ashleigh’s Patience Project and now raise Domestic Violence Awareness.
